Overview

On Day Two, the focus shifted to the educa tion system. We used the opportunity to write a Federal Grant (a Carl Perkins Grant) for the state which would potentially bring $45,000,000 over six years to focus on career and technical education in the state. The 40 participants attending the second day represented K-12 education, higher education (two and four year institutions) as well as the State Department of Education.

Particiants began the day by reconnecting with the work accomplished on the first day and started to look at where investments could be made throughout the state if we indeed received $45m in Perkins money. They were then given a quick overview into the language and requirements in the Perkins legislation.

Participants spent the remainder of the day focusing in on innovations and opportunities within the six major focus areas within Perkins:

• Accountability
  
• Academic and Technical Rigor and Integration
  
• Programs of Study
  
• Target Funding and Innovation
• CTE Professional Development

The work accomplished on day two will be iterated over the next 4 months and a grant proposal submitted in April, 2007.
