White Papers

The Covid-19 Series of White Papers

From March through September 2020, InnovationLabs prepared a series of white papers about the unfolding Covid-19 crisis.

These were written as the crisis unfolded as part of our attempt to understand what was happening and to advise our clients as to the best strategies for survival and success.

By applying the Scenario Planning technique, we were able to shift our thinking from a “prediction mindset” of trying to determine exactly what would happen, which we recognized would be impossible, to an “anticipation mindset,” thinking about what may happen, and preparing for a wide range of possibilities.

These white papers received global attention, and we have been told that they were passed throughout many organizations as leaders worked to respond effectively.

You may download the white paper here.

Social Design: The Link Between Facility Design, Organization Design, and Corporate Strategy

This white paper presents a detailed study of the design of R&D facilities. After a thorough review of the literature and visits to 9 leading-edge R&D facilities, Morris prepared this landmark White Paper.

Among the key insights is the widespread belief in the importance of high quality, face-to-face interactions between researchers. Thus, among the 9 facilities presented in this report, a total of more than 70 different architectural design and organizational techniques were applied by many of the leading design firms in the country. The report includes a description of each facility as well as the complete inventory of techniques applied.
