Social
Design: The Link Between Facility Design, Organization Design, and Corporate
Strategy
By
Langdon Morris
1999 • 73 pages; 6 illustrations
Description
In early 1999, Langdon Morris undertook a study of the design of R&D
facilities. After a thorough review of the literature and visits to 9
leading-edge R&D facilities, Morris prepared this landmark White Paper.
Among the key insights is the widespread belief in the importance of high
quality, face-to-face interactions between researchers. Thus, among the
9 facilities presented in this report, a total of more than 70 different
architectural design and organizational techniques were applied by many
of the leading design firms in the country. The report includes a description
of each facility as well as the complete inventory of techniques applied.
